Ahead of the 2026 election

The young people chose topics that they thought were important ahead of the election. They looked up facts, interviewed people and wrote articles in Mobile Stories Newsroom, which they then published on Mobile Stories.com. At the political festival Järvaveckan they also got to put their questions directly to people in power.

“It feels fantastic to run a project with the support of a foundation that so strongly shares our values and motivations,”

“Mobile Stories combines an understanding of journalism and publishing ethics with practical experience in a way that strengthens both source criticism and democratic participation. It gives young people insight into what characterizes credible content — both what they create themselves and what they encounter as media consumers. This is fully in line with our mission to safeguard high-quality, free, and independent media.”

What they took with them

Many of them interviewed someone they didn’t know for the first time. They learned to double-check information and to include more than one side of an issue. Teachers said the students became more curious about social issues and took journalistic work more seriously.

When 164 students were asked what they had learned after working with journalism in class, 88 percent said they better understood how to create trustworthy content, 86 percent that they had become better at planning an article, 81 percent that they had become better at interviewing, and 80 percent that they had become more interested in what happens in society.

The lesson plans and short courses from the project, including how to write an opinion piece and how to pitch a news story, are free to use. You can find them below:
