Empower young people with MIL
In the project “Empower youth with media and information literacy”, schools in sparsely populated municipalities, in socially disadvantaged areas or with vocational programmes were supported in strengthening young people’s media and information literacy.

Source criticism and trust in sources for more parts of Sweden
Young people aged 17 to 23 said they did not feel part of society, according to a report from MUCF (the Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society). The same year, the annual survey from the SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg showed that trust gaps were also widening. Exclusion was greatest in sparsely populated and disadvantaged areas. This exclusion is linked to the opportunity to influence the world around you and to make informed decisions about your own life, your future and our shared society.
With the project “Empower youth with media and information literacy”, Google.org provided tools to schools facing particular challenges in terms of trust in society and a lack of media and information literacy. The project was run by the non-profit organisation Voice4you using the Mobile Stories publishing tool. Between 2019 and 2024, the project promoted media and information literacy among 12,000 young people in areas with limited resources and in rural areas.
